Water Supply
|
|
The
Newport residents located in the village obtain their drinking water
from a public water supply. The source of the water supply is
surface water which is drawn from Nokomis Pond and pumped into Town.
The Newport Water District recently installed a slow-sand filter
system that is required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
and the State Department of Human Services (DHS).
All of the
other residents in Newport receive their water supply from
groundwater wells. The groundwater supply appears to be plentiful,
safe, and more than adequate to meet the amount of growth that is
taking place in the rural areas of Town.
